11/19/2011 - Youth Center Broken Into
     Youth Christian Center, 414 S. Oregon, Weslaco, was burglarized
some time between Wednesday, November 16, and Saturday, November 19. Unknown burglars forced open a "garage-type" door and stole a bunch of
musical instruments and sound equipment.
     Taken were a 32" HDTV, several guitars, including a Gibson (red/gold),
purple acoustic, and a burgundy bass guitar. Other items were 7 microphones,
including some cordless models; a Casio keyboard; a 16 channel mixer;
2 tuner pedals. In all, over $4,000 worth of equipment was stolen.

11/4/2011 - Van & Trailer Stolen
     In the early morning hours of Friday, November 4, thieves stole the B104 van andan attached trailer. The employee had been doing DJ duty at Buffalo Wings andRings, located at 1600 N. Westgate.
     The Clear Channel B104 Ford Econoline van, with stickers all over it, was located, burned, in the Edinburg area on November 6. The white "Cargomate" utility trailer was nowhere to be found. It had license plates 45YRYX on it.

10/29/2011 - Valley Nature Center Burglarized

Over the past few months, Valley Nature Center, 301 S. Border Ave., has been the victim of several burglaries. The most recent, on Saturday, October 29, occurred when burglars pulled off burglar bars from a south window and broke the window pane. Overgrown vegetation helped conceal the criminals as they worked.
Fortunately, they got away with only a wheelbarrow. It is a "True Value," blue in color.

10/3/2011 - Burglary in Progress-South Kansas Avenue
     An alert neighbor noticed a suspicious male near a house in the 900
block of South Kansas Avenue and called police. This witness said that the
man first went to the front door, knocked, and when no one answered, went
around to the back. There, the suspect apparently forced open the back door,
went in, and came out carrying a jewelry box.
      The homeowner later said that jewelry boxes and jewelry were stolen
in the burglary.
     The burglar is described as a Hispanic male, in his early 30`s, 5 feet,
6 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds. He had a shaved head and a thick
mustache. He wore a green shirt and blue jeans. He got away in a newer
model black Chevrolet Malibu, possibly driven by a female. They were last
 seen headed south on Texas Blvd.

9/25/2011 - Coin Machines Plundered
     A number of coin-operated machines were broken into during the weekend of September 25. These occurred at local car washes and Stripes stores. In some cases, the thieves used a cordless drill to drill out the locks of the machines and then took the coins from them. In more extreme cases, the culprits ripped the whole machine from the outside wall of the convenience store.
     A surveillance camera at one store caught a picture of 2 males driving a silver minivan, something like an older Nissan Quest van.

9/17/2011 - Aggravated Robbery in Walmart Parking Lot
      A Walmart female employee, taking a break, sitting in her car in the parking lot, was unexpectedly confronted by a man who pointed a gun at her. The man said, " Give me the money." Instead of complying, she pushed his gun aside and told him to get out of there. Surprised, he immediately ran off across the parking lot. She did slightly injure her finger on the gun.
     The robber is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet, 6 inches, 130 pounds, having short hair, and wearing a long white T-shirt shirt and blue jeans. He was picked up by a blue 4-door car.

9/16/2011 - Carjack on Hackberry / Robbery at La Joya Credit Union

           CAR JACKING AND AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

 

OFFENSE:                      Aggravated Robbery

WHEN  OCCURRED:     Friday, September 16, 2011, at about 1:35pm

           

WHERE OCCURRED:     1000 Hackberry Avenue

                                          La Joya Federal Credit Union, 302 W. Llano Grande

 

WHAT OCCURRED:       At a residence on Hackberry Ave. a lone  male approached two women outside their maroon Ford Expedition. He displayed a handgun, ordering the owner to give him the keys. She complied, and he drove    away, east on Hackberry and then north on Border             

                                         Within minutes, police received information that the La Joya Federal Credit Union had been held up. In this case, two men entered the business, displayed handguns, and ordered the employees to turn

over the money. The men fled north on Cedro Street.

                                           Shortly after 2pm, the carjacked SUV which had been used in the bank robbery was found in an alley at Liberty and Huisache streets. The robbers were nowhere to be found. None of the victims was injured in either robbery.

                                                                                               

SUSPECTS:             Two Hispanic males, late 20’s to early 30’s, standing

about 5 feet, 6 inches, wearing hoodies (one blue ; one red), and

baggy pants.

9/1/2011 - A & W Produce
     A & W Produce, at 2300 Vo-Tech Drive, in Weslaco` Industrial Park, was struck by burglars on the night  of Sunday, August 14. After entering the building, the perpetrators pried open a Coke machine, reached in and stole a number of coins.

9/1/2011 - B & B Insurance Robbed
                             B & B Insurance Robbed
     B & B Insurance, 1521 N. Texas Blvd., was robbed at knifepoint on Thursday, September 1. At about 5:30pm, the lone female employee was confronted by two men who told her they wanted all the money. They brandished knives to make their point. Once they got the money, they fled out the back door of the business.
      Both men are Hispanic males, age 20 -30 years, about 5 feet, 8 inches in height. One man wore sunglasses and a red cap; the other wore a white shirt and blue jeans. The employee was not injured in the robbery.

8/27/2011 - Robbery at A to Z Liquors
      A lone male entered the A to Z liquor store, 1509 W. Business 83, brandished
a knife and asked for "the money." This aggravated robbery occurred on Saturday, August 27, about 6:30pm. Once the robber received the cash, he fled south toward the alley and then west.
      He then met up with an accomplice, and they drove off in what was described as a light blue car. The clerk was not injured in the robbery
      The actual robber is described as older (possibly in his 40`s), standing 5 feet, 8 inches, weighing about 180 pounds. He was wearing a long-sleeved maroon plaid shirt and a Dallas Cowboys cap. He also wore sunglasses.
      The accomplice is younger and was initially wearing a Weslaco Panther cut off T-shirt.

8/26/2011 - Burglary in Southgate Woods
     An alarm system is an excellent anti-crime fighting tool. In Weslaco`s south side subdivision, Southgate Woods, a burglar attempted to rip off a homeowner on Southgate Circle. However, the security system activated, apparently scaring the criminal off.
     On Thursday, August 25, at least one individual broke a rear window, reached in, and unlocked the back door. By that time the alarm system and the monitoring company had done their job, notifying police. Some damage was done, but no valuables were lost.
      If you happened to see a suspicious person in the area at about 9am on Thursday, call Weslaco Crime Stoppers with a description. The burglar`s next target might be your abode. It`s all about "neighbors looking after neighbors."

8/19/2011 - Arson at City Park
     ARSONIST STRIKES WESLACO CITY PARK
      Someone set fire to the concession / restroom building at
Weslaco City Park on Friday night, August 19, at about 11:30pm.
The Weslaco Fire Department first responded to a call of palm
trees on fire. As they worked to extinguish that fire, they discovered
that the concession building, too, was on fire.
       There had been previous fires at the park on Wednesday, when
the firefighters put out several trash cans which were on fire.

7/26/2011 - Burglary on West Pike
     Burglars broke into a residence in the 300 block of West Pike Blvd., on July 25. They forced the house`s front door, entered, and stole a variety of items. These include a Vizio 42" LCD TV, a Magnavox Blu Ray player, a Sony Vaio laptop computer, and a small portable Apple TV.

7/21/2011 - Local Bars Hit by Burglars
      Two local bars were burglarized during the next-to-last week of July. In one burglary, on July 23, at Las 2 Fronteras bar, at Milano Road and West Business 83, someone removed burglar bars and then kicked open the front door of the business. Taken was a single Panasonic 42" HDTV. Suspects also pried open a juke box and stole its money.
     In the other burglary, on July 21, at "Sinsations" in the 2900 block of West Businesss 83, burglars pried open burglar bars, broke the door lock, and entered. Taken were 2 large HDTV sets, 2 electronic music mixers, an amplifier, a laptop computer, and several bottles of liquor. Burglars also pried open the coin boxes to 2 pool tables, taking money from them. These burglaries share several similarities.

7/4/2011 - Burglary in Live Oak Subdivision
     On West 20th Street, in Live Oak subdivision, homeowners returned home to a shock on the 4th of July. Burglars sneaked into the garage and stole all sorts of things. They included an HP laptop, strobe lights, Ryobi weedeater, a Pioneer DVD navigation system, radar detector, Makita cordless drill, and Sony CD player. But worst of all, these slimeballs took the family dog - a gray female schnauzer. 
      A witness spotted a 1990`s black Ford Explorer nearby.
