MURDER OF RUTH A. MELTON
March 14, 2016

The Weslaco Police Department is looking at a cold case,
regarding the murder of a 79-year-old resident of
Weslaco.
On the night of August 26-27, 1988, an unknown person
entered the home of Ruth Melton and bludgeoned her
to death.
Ruth`s lifeless body was discovered by an adult daughter,
May Ruth Keg, who had arrived at Ruth`s house to visit and to
take her on a trip back to the San Antonio area.

Police investigators concluded that an intruder entered the house
through an unlocked door and went into Ruth`s bedroom, where he
beat her to death.
It is unknown what weapon the intruder used in the beating.
An autopsy confirmed that Ruth`s death was caused by
a blunt object to the head. Ruth suffered a fractured
skull and massive blood loss.
The house was ransacked, and Ruth`s purse was
found on the floor.

Over the 27 years since the murder, the case file has lain
in a filing cabinet with a few other unsolved cases,
waiting for their turn to be solved. Few new
leads have surfaced.

Weslaco Police now hope to spark new leads in the
murder, to bring justice to Ruth Melton and her family.

The Weslaco Police Department has resurrected a 20-year-old murder case, attempting to unearth new leads in the murder of a woman named Yolanda Moya.
Ms. Moya, age 33 failed to report to work at a local farm implement company the morning of January 22, 1993. A family member went to her new house at 824 S. Louisiana Avenue looking for her. She was found inside the house with a gunshot wound to her neck, with her lifeless body partially burned. She had been doused with gasoline and her body set afire.
During the investigation, there were some theories about the death, but no hard evidence was ever found to be able  to take a suspect into custody. Today, with improvements in the use of DNA, the police department thinks it is time to re-investigate the case.
Obviously, there is at least one person that knows who sealed Ms. Moya`s fate. And he may not be the only person who knows. It is time that justice is provided for Yolanda Moya. Can you help?
